Let’s be honest, not all food dishes are easy to make. Almost all of us can cook basic dishes, but great tasting food requires time, love, effort, patience, and sometimes direction!

I was born and raised in Vietnam. I grew up in a family where I didn’t have to cook at all, instead I helped clean the house for my parents and went to school. That was my main responsibility. When I came to the United States, it was a culture shock for me. I don’t remember how I started liking American food, but at some point I realized that it tasted very different and very strange.

I remember that when I went into labor with my daughter, I was so afraid that I couldn’t eat the hospital food that I decided to cook some stir-fry and take it with me. Later, I was introduced to oatmeal at the hospital. It was familiar, but instead of adding sugar to the oatmeal, I added salt. It reminded me so much of rice porridge (rice congee) from my home country.

After I had my daughter, I stayed home and took care of her but I missed food from home, and it took me a while to develop a taste for American food. I wanted to eat good food so badly that from that day on, I decided to learn how to cook.

I spent so many days tirelessly watching Food Cooking Network shows on TV. I was hooked. Additionally, every time I went out to eat, I tried to figure out what was in the food dish and then I would go home and recreate the dish from my memory of the flavor. I got very good at it. My husband says it’s an amazing talent!

I went from never having had to cook, to wanting to learn how to cook. I got to the point where I was cooking and I really enjoying it! So we bought a restaurant, where I learned even more about cooking, and how to cook for larger groups!

Here I am 25 years later, I still LOVE cooking and getting together with friends where we cook, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company, and eat GOOD FOOD! I travel the world, trying out a wide range of international dishes and I love to learn how I can apply these different cuisines to my own unique style.

I’m sure we will all learn and laugh while we are cooking up our own concoctions!
